How to Make A Sound 'Memory' Game

February 6, 2018 Alyson Swihart

Where We Got it:  One of Ami's favorite games as a child was Memory.  She could play that game for hours. When her son was in preschool, he was definitely a sensory child and had a very auditory mind.    Other students in his preschool had varying levels of learning needs  including vision impairment issues.  Ami was inspired to think "outside the box" to create a Sound ‘Memory’ Game that would:

  • enhance listening skill

  • create a discussion around the five senses

  • differentiate between sounds

How To Do It: The Sound 'Memory' Game is played just like the traditional Memory Game of matching pairs.  However, this game the students can play based on auditory matching. To make the game, Ami used Daiso stainless steel tins from the snack containers for her son. She filled up the containers with different materials (beads, pennies, corks. etc) and left one pair blank.  The students really enjoyed this version of Memory!

How else can you use this activity?
